The Child Care Specialist Assistant supports the daily care and teaching activities of the children assigned to their classroom and reports to the Child Care Manager and the Director of the Child Care Center. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with one- and two-year-olds — an age group that thrives on consistent routines, hands-on sensory play, and lots of one-on-one attention — and who is comfortable with the physical, hands-on nature of caring for toddlers (diapering, feeding, and frequent lifting).

- Responsible for the well-being of all children in the toddler classroom; assist the lead teacher/specialist with everyday housekeeping routines such as cleaning tables, sweeping, sanitizing toys, etc. to keep the classroom in order.
- Provide warm, one‑on‑one attention to toddlers as they build independent skills such as self‑feeding, cup drinking, and early self‑help routines.
- Take charge of individuals and small groups; lead age‑appropriate activities such as reading board books, storytelling, singing songs, sensory play, and simple movement games when the teacher is occupied with other duties or absent from the room.
- Support diapering and/or toilet‑learning routines, and assist children requiring first aid or a change of soiled clothing during the day, following classroom health and sanitation procedures.
- Relieve classroom teachers as needed on a daily basis to provide staff breaks.
- Assist in arranging the classroom that is appropriate for quiet play, meals, and naps, including setting up and breaking down cribs/cots as needed.
- Administrate achievement instruments on children.
- Maintain files on each child including achievement profiles, teacher observations, examples of classroom work and attendance and medication records.
- Arrange and decorate the classroom in a pleasing and developmentally appropriate manner.
- Maintain classroom equipment and supplies; keep the classroom clean and sanitary. Perform light housekeeping chores as needed, such as sweeping floors, vacuuming rugs, cleaning and disinfecting tables, countertops, and other equipment.
