Position Overview

Under limited supervision, performs Waste Management job functions as assigned by management. Typical job responsibilities include assisting and supporting management in ensuring that the site Waste Management function operates in a manner that is safe, cost effective and fully compliant with procedures and all regulatory requirements. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Waste Management functional areas such as nuclear materials control, waste packaging, container movement, waste inventory control, transportation or related areas involving hands‑on work or office work.

Plays a key role in planning, scheduling and organizing work to ensure utilization of employees and compliance with all contract requirements, quality standards and budgetary guidelines. Ensures staffing levels of supervised personnel are maintained to allow effective execution of the assigned scope of work at all times. Instructs employees on work methods and performance expectations, providing leadership and motivation.

Interfaces with groups inside and outside the organization, senior management, and auditors; may be assigned special projects and provide presentations to senior management. Responsible for direction, training, and evaluation of Waste Management personnel, and assists with development or update of various plans, policies or procedures. Aids in maintaining positive employee relations, group supervision, and administration. May have budgetary responsibilities and assist in developing executive training and qualification programs for Waste Management personnel.

Accountable for the safe, efficient storage, packaging, and transportation of all forms of environmental/hazardous (including radioactive) waste materials. Oversees investigations of waste management facilities and evaluates environmental waste transportation, treatment and disposal vendors. Develops and oversees quality assurance and training programs related to handling of radioactive and other hazardous waste. Assists in preparation and implementation of approved Waste Management programs, performing duties that are complex in nature.

Other job related duties as assigned. Maintains knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations and performs duties in a safe manner; if supervising others, ensures their compliance with safety policies and practice safe work habits. Actively participates in Safety Work Groups.

Working Conditions

Work in an environmental restoration atmosphere (outdated and/or abandoned facilities). Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents, or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed. Ability to wear respirator and other protective equipment to enter potentially hazardous areas, carry instruments or tools while walking extensively. Potential for medium to very heavy work, lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally, or 50 pounds frequently;

work may require a two‑person “buddy system” for heavy lifting. Potential for prolonged driving or riding in a motor vehicle, machine operation, or working around moving equipment. Ability to work in confined areas, tanks, heat stress conditions, high noise, and areas with radiation or chemical hazards. Environmental conditions may include weather or temperature extremes. In some cases radiological training may be required.

May be required to operate company vehicle during the course of work. All safety and DOT regulations and procedures must be adhered to at all times.
