Your OpportunityAs a Senior Transportation Engineer, you’ll bring your experience in highways, streets, and roadway design to lead and support a wide range of projects—from conceptual planning through final design and construction. You’ll manage the design and delivery of transportation projects while working independently on smaller assignments and collaboratively on larger initiatives. This role involves applying advanced knowledge, sound engineering principles, and best practices to solve complex problems.
The role of a Senior Transportation Engineer is to work independently on smaller projects and as a team member of a larger project. You will lead the design of assigned roadway projects to ensure reliability, resource efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The role will guide and mentor junior staff but will not have direct report responsibilities. Sitting in our Lexington, KY office, you’ll be exposed to a wide variety of roadway projects including corridors, interchanges, intersections, and mega projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and prepare complex engineering designs, plans, and drawings for a variety of projects, including urban and rural roadways, highways, and intersections.
- Apply advanced knowledge of transportation engineering principles and stay current on evolving methods and technologies.
- Assist with client production.
- Coordinate effectively with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Responsible for the design, plan production and quality reviews of assigned projects.
- Supervise and mentor engineers, CAD staff, and junior team members, providing leadership, guidance, and professional development.
- Proven ability to solve complex problems using sound judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Proficiency in Micro Station is a plus.
- Experience with Open Roads is a plus.
- Strong communication skills—both verbal and written—with the ability to convey ideas, design issues, and solutions clearly.
- Ability to review the work of others for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design standards.
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills and a commitment to meeting project deadlines and budgets.
- Collaborative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with a positive attitude and a passion for team success.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in highway/roadway design is preferred.

Pay TransparencyIn compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
