Job Summary

DeBra‑Kuempel seeks an HVAC Controls Engineer for the EMCOR Services Automated Controls division in Lexington, KY. The role focuses on programming BCS/Digital‑Direct Control systems, providing technical support, and delivering end‑user training for commercial and industrial projects.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attend project turnover meetings with sales and project teams.
  • Write control programs for direct digital control systems.
  • Write control programs for third‑party equipment integration.
  • Create system databases for projects.
  • Follow department programming and database standards.
  • Provide programming support to field technicians and specialists.
  • Coordinate PID tuning with field technicians.
  • Coordinate third‑party integration with field technicians.
  • Provide programs/databases to graphics team.
  • Identify gaps or ambiguities in the project and submit RFIs as required.
  • Work with design engineers to develop written sequence of operations for DDC equipment.
  • Mentor new employees and assist in their growth.
  • Train facility owners/operators.
  • Maintain backups of DDC systems.
  • Develop strong relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Escalate critical issues to the Engineering Manager / Project Manager with recommendations for resolution.
  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in a related engineering/technology field required; bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.
  • In lieu of a degree, a verified DDC specific training and two or more years of experience will be considered.
  • Experience with DDC or PLC design and programming preferred.
  • Strong understanding of commercial electrical, HVAC, and control theory fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with third‑party equipment integration over protocols such as BACnet/Modbus.
  • Experience in engineering, design, or maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Visio, and other electrical/technical programs.
  • Familiarity with building architecture and computer networks.
  • Programming experience required; graphical block programming experience a plus.
Physical Demands

The role requires regular sitting, observing, talking, hearing, using hands, walking, reaching, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds. It involves commuting to field locations and navigating job sites.

Work Environment

Working conditions may include prolonged computer use, exposure to outdoor elements, wet or humid environments, mechanical equipment, high or precarious working positions, dust, fumes, chemicals, temperature extremes, and moderate to loud noise levels.
