EMC Senior Project Engineer – 2nd Shift – Lexington, KY

Intertek is searching for an EMC Senior Project Engineer – 2nd Shift to join our Electrical team in Lexington, KY. The role involves independent testing, evaluation, report writing, client communication, mentoring, and support of local technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the equipment under test (EUT).
  • Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
  • Identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing.
  • Follow established test plan.
  • Develop and set up test plans.
  • Set up and operate the EUT; perform and document simple repairs as needed.
  • Set up and operate standard test equipment, including spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, multimeter, signal generators, amplifiers, surge generator, etc.; use hand tools as required.
  • Follow sample handling procedures, ensuring samples are logged in and out of the system, moved through the facility, and properly packaged for shipment.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards. Core tests include rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal and fault insurance, rain, radiation, sound, and laser.
  • Train and mentor less senior technical staff.
  • Provide local technical expertise and maintain reviewer status in one or more product categories.
  • Proactively develop and communicate test procedures, new test fixtures, and report shells for the local office.
  • Investigate technical complaints and support accreditation efforts by performing technical audits locally.
  • Demonstrate sufficient product and/or standards knowledge to be considered an expert across multiple product categories for the local office.
  • Provide quotations for a wide array of standards and complex projects and products.
  • Represent Intertek by participating on standards/industry committees and/or associations.
  • Perform preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.
  • Perform field labeling jobs.
  • Provide complex sales support such as giving presentations during client visits.
  • Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing, and provide ongoing support to clients as needed.
  • Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments.
  • Perform other work as required.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
  • Must be able to work 2nd Shift.
  • During training, must be able to work 1st Shift for about 60 days.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • 4+ years of hands‑on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) lab testing experience.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time, including overnight travel, to support on‑site evaluation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking environment with excellent organization and time‑management skills.
  • Microsoft Office software experience required.
  • Customer‑focused and quality‑driven mindset.
  • Applicants must complete an I‑9 to verify eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Applicants must reside in and be legally able to work in the United States.
Preferred Requirements & Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Familiarity with on‑site EMC testing and certification requirements and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience with U.S., Canadian, and other international EMC/EMI compliance standards (e.g., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC).
  • Prior project management experience.
