PROJECTS ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
We're looking for a full‑time staff Projects Electrical Engineer to join the Mason & Hanger team. This role will regularly function as the Responsible Engineer Of Record accountable for the technical sufficiency of electrical department project deliverables. The role is hybrid, reporting to one of our locations:
Virginia Beach, VA;
Lexington, KY;
Huntsville, AL;
San Antonio, TX.
- Create and/or direct others to edit, check, and generate project documents including plans, BIM models, specifications, and other support documents (basis of design).
- Check work delegated to other engineers and designers to ensure scope is documented successfully; serve as Discipline Lead.
- Perform complex engineering calculations; design systems and complete equipment selection.
- Manage electrical department scope for the project.
- Act as the main point of contact to clients for electrical department project responsibilities (meetings, conference calls, comment review/responses, etc.). Perform ITRs, travel for meetings and site investigations, cost estimates, and other tasks as required.
- Comply with data protection principles while handling personal, protected, and/or Covered Defense Information on behalf of Day & Zimmermann.
- BS/BA in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, ABET accredited (or equivalent for licensure). Master’s degree preferred.
- 6+ years of experience, including 2 years of stamping/drawing.
- PE required.
- Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) preferred; LEED AP preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, communication with clients and leadership.
- Successful completion of drug and background screening.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
- Skilled in leading electrical design, preparation of engineering and construction documents (lighting, power, telecommunications); knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70, ASHRAE 90.1, UBO Design Standards, GSA, TDMM.
- Ability to use engineering calculation spreadsheets and SKM Power
* Tools; understand building systems coordination. - Command of overall department project scope; experience from inception to substantial completion.
- Experience in business development, cost management, constructability, and coordination with other disciplines.
- Proactive learner, self‑aware of technical limitations, and proactive in seeking support.
- Visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing and inspecting objects.
- Pushing or pulling, balancing, manual dexterity, stooping, grasping, reaching.
- Lifting more than 15 pounds, walking, repetitive motion.
- Manual dexterity repeated, climbing, hearing, talking, concentration, long‑period focus.
- Reading and writing complex documents in English; reasoning and decision‑making.
- Perform job functions at office or worksite; withstand environmental conditions (heat, cold, wind, dust, fumes, noise).
In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $93,600 – $140,400. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary; final offer may vary based on experience and geographic location.
