East Region Alternative Delivery Lead (Power Sector)

HDR is seeking an East Region Alternative Delivery Lead within the Power Sector, Power Delivery Practice to be part of our national Alternative Delivery (AD) Leadership Team. AD includes Design‑Build, Engineer‑Procure‑Construct, Progressive Design‑Build, Construction Manager‑General Contractor, Construction Manager at Risk, and Integrated Project Delivery. The role will involve all aspects of our power delivery AD program, driving collaboration between HDR’s global power delivery staff and construction partners, focusing on mitigating engineering risks associated with AD projects.

Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership and responsibility for elevating the power delivery AD program within HDR’s East Region, covering the states and regions listed.
  • Partner with business development, operations and technical leadership to develop new opportunities, markets and staffing plans.
  • Drive teaming agreement negotiations with potential construction partners in coordination with AD Director, operations and legal counsel, aligning with HDR’s business goals.
  • Lead development of a power delivery FEED team that evaluates and mitigates technical risk of AD opportunities before and during Go/No‑Go evaluation.
  • Review AD project intel, opportunities and RFPs to estimate technical investments prior to Go/No‑Go discussions.
  • Assist in Go/No‑Go discussions, project risk assessments, SOQs, proposals, interviews, and negotiations as required.
  • Drive development of scope, schedule and budget with a focus on AD‑specific risks such as procurement support, construction support, critical path scheduling.
  • Provide AD best‑practice guidance to pursuit and project delivery teams.
  • Collaborate with regional and area operations leaders, market sector leaders, practice leaders, project managers, commercial managers and project teams to deliver high‑quality engineering, environmental, real‑estate, geospatial and construction support services.
  • Develop AD project teams including managers, technical leaders, controls and commercial managers.
  • Serve as a senior advisor during AD project execution, providing contract administration and management support.
  • Serve as Project Manager or Engineering Manager on select power delivery projects, both AD and traditional design‑bid‑build.
  • Oversee production section – project delivery, staffing, recruiting, quality, utilization, workload forecasting, safety and morale.
  • Mentor and develop other employees.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
  • Report to the Power Sector Alternative Delivery Director.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil and/or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or similar.
  • Minimum 15 years of power delivery experience.
  • Minimum 5 years building and/or managing engineering teams on EPC projects.
  • Strong leadership and project management experience with remote teams.
  • Understanding of contractual risk and mitigation strategies in AD models.
  • Proven experience managing client relationships, proposals, and business development.
  • Self‑starter with excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms (Zoom, Web Ex, Teams, etc.).
  • Position requires up to 30% travel.
  • Professional Engineer licensure or DBIA certification is preferred.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • 10 years related experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, estimating and scheduling software, and project management software.
  • Ability to interact with various design teams and strong organizational, project management and communication skills.
  • Commitment to active participation in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
