POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Commissioning (Cx) Engineer III leads the planning, execution, and delivery of commissioning, retro-commissioning, and building performance projects for a variety of facility types. This role provides technical expertise throughout design, construction, and occupancy phases, working closely with owners, design teams, contractors, and facility staff to verify building systems operate as intended and meet project objectives.

The Commissioning Engineer III also serves as a mentor and technical resource to Performance Group staff while supporting business development efforts through client relationship management, proposal support, and identification of new opportunities. This position plays a key role in maintaining high-quality project delivery, fostering collaboration, and supporting the continued growth of commissioning services across the region.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Technical Services
  • Plan, manage, and execute commissioning, recommissioning, retro-commissioning, building performance evaluations, and facility audit activities.
  • Conduct pre-construction commissioning related tasks which include reviews of Owner's Project Requirements/Basis of Design documents, execute MEP design reviews with clearly documented comments, and participate with design teams and clients in design review meetings. Additionally, perform and document MEP related submittal review processes with the design & construction teams.
  • Develop, conduct, and document HVAC functional performance testing, including point-to-point verification, equipment testing, control sequence verification, and integrated system testing.
  • Support the development, execution, or witnessing of functional tests for electrical, lighting, life safety, fire protection, plumbing, building envelope and other building systems, as required.
  • Perform construction-phase observations and inspections to verify that mechanical, electrical, plumbing and controls installations conform to the project documents, approved submittals, and design intent.
  • Identify, document, communicate, and track commissioning issues through resolution.
  • Prepare and contribute to commissioning plans, test procedures, meeting records, issue logs, field reports, and final commissioning reports.
  • Participate in construction and project coordination meetings; lead commissioning meetings and communicate action items, responsibilities, and required follow-up to project stakeholders.
  • Assist with Test and Balance measurements, system performance evaluations, energy-use calculations, and energy-savings analyses, as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of commissioning practices, building systems, DDC controls, applicable codes, industry standards, and emerging technologies.
