Standard Job Description

The Avionics Electrician performs installation, testing, troubleshooting, operational checks, cyclical & unscheduled maintenance, alterations, and modifications to aircraft & systems. The work includes various types of electrical harnesses, loose wiring, avionics componentry such as; communication, navigation, countermeasure, and flight characteristics equipment. Candidates are customarily required to maintain all occupational areas in FOD free and aviation standard cleanliness conditions. Duties will also support aircraft maintenance, servicing, flushing, cleaning, jacking, towing, and flight testing support.

The occupation requires entries in maintenance records describing work performed, verifying satisfactory performance, and returning aircraft, parts, and aircraft documentation to a flight worthy status. The candidate will make determination of work completeness and system operating conformance by referring to inspection lists, technical orders, service bulletins, blueprints, manufacturing outline sheets, and engineering reports. Other related airworthiness compliance categories are established through USG doctrinal guidance, Federal Aviation Licensing, and engineering specifications.

Candidates within this title regularly specialize in their respective field of experience for repairs, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, modification, precision instruments, functional spare parts, and aircraft assemblies.

Basic Qualifications

The duties of this title will perform many task independently. The candidate will commonly assist or work within general instructions from higher rated employees in the environment.

Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system architecture drawings.

Capability to lift/handle heavy equipment and aircraft components.

Desired Skills

Demonstrated knowledge for determination of repairable, serviceable, rejectable, condemnable parts and assemblies.

Proficient in procedures & methods concerning each of the categories.

Familiarity with precision instruments and functional spare‑parts management.

Prior experience in a military aviation environment or with US government‑owned aircraft.
