Position: REGIONAL OPERATIONS CONTROLLER UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY

REGIONAL OPERATIONS CONTROLLER – University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY

The Regional Operations Controller is responsible for leading the accounting and finance activities for all campuses within the University of Kentucky region. The role involves ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, financial analysis, and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensures all accounting activity within the Region is performed accurately and completely.
  • Ensures all account procedures conform with strict internal control requirements to safeguard Company assets, including cash, inventory, and accounts receivable.
  • Analyzes financial results including Key Performance Indicators for both internal and external use.
  • Understands contractual financial terms and obligations to ensure SSC compliance.
  • Develops forecasts and budgets, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Reviews weekly general ledger activity and prepares correcting entries as needed.
  • Completes financial reports monthly, quarterly and annually as needed.
  • Trains, mentors and develops all unit accounting and clerical staff and provides financial guidance to operational account managers.
  • Prepares and presents financial summaries for both internal and client leadership.
  • Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Travel occasionally.
  • Monitors and maintains prompt routine preparation and reporting of retail productivity measures.
  • Provides personal support and training for unit managers with unit bookkeeping as needed.
  • Assists with and oversees the monthly close process, providing the bridge between unit management and corporate HQ.
  • Monitors and improves local controls and accounting procedures where weaknesses are identified at unit level.
  • Establishes routines for weekly operating and profitability reports, focusing on provision of accuracy and relevant, prompt information for management.
  • Provides prompt analysis of month‑end results for the operational team, including unit management.
  • Prepares detailed and summary forecasts as required.
  • Leads the preparation of detailed and rolled up annual budgets.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of five years hands‑on experience required.
  • Experience supporting operations is strongly preferred.
  • Strong Excel analytic skills required.
  • Ability to prepare key metric reports, budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections and analyses.
  • Proven ability to work closely with teams and client partners.
  • Strong communicator with ability to explain financial and accounting principles to various levels of management and support personnel.
  • Adept at planning, organizing and controlling complex processes as well as preparing and analyzing moderately complex financial models.
  • Experience with AP/PO process managing a high volume of work order billing.
  • Skilled at managing multiple priorities and relationships.
  • Computer skills: proficient in Microsoft Office with a concentration in Excel.
  • Conformity to the highest standards of personal integrity and ethical behavior.
  • Must reside in Lexington, Kentucky.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance, MBA and/or CPA an advantage.
  • Five years’ experience with revenue control, financial reporting and cash handling responsibilities.
  • Three years’ experience in a similar operational accounting or financial reporting role a plus.
  • Previous similar experience in a retail environment also an advantage.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, knowledge of Access, PowerPoint SAP (spreadsheets and financial accounting software) advantageous.
  • Ability to travel (20%).
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills.
