Job Summary

The Radiology Operations Manager, with a specialty focus in General and Cardiac Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT, is responsible for 24/7 operational oversight within all Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT locations across the enterprise, in both hospital and ambulatory locations. This position is accountable for outcomes related to high-quality, safe, and efficient patient care, with particular attention to the unique clinical, regulatory, and safety considerations inherent to nuclear medicine services.

The Radiology Operations Manager provides direct clinical and managerial leadership for personnel within their work unit(s), including technologists and support staff working with radiopharmaceuticals and advanced nuclear imaging technologies. This role also extends leadership support as needed to all Radiology personnel across the department.

The Manager is accountable for patient satisfaction, staff engagement, and fostering a culture of safety—especially regarding radiation protection, proper handling of radiopharmaceuticals, and adherence to ALARA principles. They serve as the primary facilitator for all matters within their unit(s), coordinating effectively both inter‑ and intra‑departmentally.

This position ensures strict compliance with clinical protocols, accreditation standards (including those specific to nuclear medicine), and all relevant regulatory and reimbursement requirements, such as those from the NRC, CMS, and accrediting bodies. The Radiology Manager supports and contributes to achieving goals established by the unit, department, and UK Health Care, ensuring operational excellence and continuous quality improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 24/7 operational oversight for Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT locations across the enterprise, including hospital and ambulatory sites.
  • Provide direct clinical and managerial leadership for personnel within the unit, including technologists and support staff working with radiopharmaceuticals and advanced imaging technologies; extend leadership support to Radiology personnel department-wide as needed.
  • Drive patient satisfaction, staff engagement, and a culture of safety with emphasis on radiation protection and ALARA principles.
  • Coordinate inter- and intra-departmental activities to facilitate effective operations and communication.
  • Ensure strict compliance with clinical protocols, accreditation standards, and regulatory/reimbursement requirements (e.g., NRC, CMS).
  • Contribute to achieving unit, department, and UK Health Care goals through operational excellence and continuous quality improvement.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office for communication, reporting, and basic data tracking.
  • Experience with staff scheduling, timekeeping, and managing 24/7 workforce needs.
  • Familiarity with imaging workflows, ensuring images are stored, shared, and accessed efficiently.
  • Experience using Radiology Information Systems for scheduling, documentation, and maintaining accurate patient and procedure information.
  • Understanding of Lean concepts to improve workflows, reduce delays, and support a smooth patient experience.
