The Trauma Registrar is a data steward in the trauma program, converting complex clinical information into structured data that drives quality improvement, accreditation, research, and clinical practice guideline decisions. This position directly reports to the Lead Trauma Registrar and indirectly to the Trauma Program Manager. The Registrar will comply with all appropriate University of Kentucky Hospital and Trauma Services policies, vision, and values.
A minimum of three years of coding experience is required, with trauma registry experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, clinical/therapeutic modalities, ICD-10-CM coding, personal computer usage, quality-of-care audit procedures, and the ability to retrieve statistical information from a computerized database and compile it into a comprehensive and understandable report is essential. The Registrar must possess attention to detail, independence, and solid organizational skills.
Occasional standing or walking, lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to or over 25 pounds; regular sitting at a computer workstation with repetitive motions such as typing; occasional job-related travel.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities- In-depth computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Strong understanding of coding and registrar processes
- Thorough understanding of data analysis
- Ability to complete educational coursework within one year of hire to obtain certifications
