The IT project portfolio spans software development, SaaS selection and implementation, core infrastructure improvements, endpoint management, and cybersecurity initiatives. The Project Portfolio Manager will oversee the intake, evaluation, prioritization, and governance of IT projects using a structured, defensible methodology for aligning projects with strategic objectives. Additionally, this role ensures the portfolio conforms to recognized project and service management frameworks, while optimizing the allocation of department resources to deliver measurable value to the organization.
Key Responsibilities1. Project Intake
- Design and oversee a standardized project intake process, ensuring requests include required details (e.g., business drivers, scope, costs, risks).
- Utilize an objective scoring model to prioritize initiatives based on reach, impact, urgency, resource availability, and strategic alignment.
- Maintain a centralized project backlog to refute informal prioritization.
2. Project Coordination
- Work with business units to ensure project proposals capture business context, strategic alignment, and realistic expectations.
- Manage cross-project dependencies, constraints, and cross-team coordination among IT and business contributors.
- Facilitate meetings, gather documentation, and participate in other project activities as needed.
- Track project performance, including timelines, budgets, deliverables, and risks across all projects, reporting to IT leadership, steering committees, or business stakeholders as directed.
- Assess and maintain alignment of IT projects with department and/or enterprise strategies.
- Conduct regular portfolio reviews to evaluate progress, risks, resource allocation, and strategic value.
- Relevant professional certification(s) from Project Management Institute (PMI), Scrum Alliance, PRINCE2, etc.
- Deep knowledge of the principles of project portfolio management, proficient with agile and waterfall project methodologies, and knowledgeable in service management frameworks such as ITIL or COBIT.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills and talent for communicating with both technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities, manage conflict, and make data driven decisions.
