The Role

The Digital Operations function delivers high quality digital infrastructure, platform services, applications and non-clinical support functions that meet the current and future needs of NHS Lanarkshire staff and patients.

Through the Digital Services Manager (Technology Services), the IT Systems Specialist provides specialist technical knowledge across the Systems team remit and is responsible for the effective support, maintenance, configuration, optimisation and continuous improvement of core server infrastructure, identity services and back-end Microsoft 365 platforms.

The role requires specialist knowledge of complex technical environments, normally acquired through degree‑level study or equivalent specialist training and experience, together with significant practical experience of enterprise infrastructure and Microsoft technologies. The postholder works with a high degree of autonomy within established policies and procedures, exercises judgement on complex technical issues, provides specialist advice to colleagues and stakeholders, and contributes to service improvement and the longer‑term transition toward a hybrid cloud operating model.

This Key Role, You Will

Lead, support or contribute to the administration, maintenance and improvement of the following service areas:

  • Windows/Linux Server infrastructure, associated virtual server platforms and core management tooling
  • Management and support of core Microsoft infrastructure, identity, security and maintenance services across Azure and Active Directory environments.
  • Configuration, hardening, monitoring, resilience, backup, recovery, performance and capacity management across supported services

Provide specialist technical support and advice for complex infrastructure and platform services, acting as a source of expertise for Systems‑owned technologies

Implement, administer and support secure, resilient and highly available services, ensuring incidents, problems, changes and service requests are effectively managed and resolved

Undertake complex fault finding, analysis and diagnosis across server, identity and cloud-integrated services, using judgement to determine the most appropriate corrective action

Plan and organise technical activities, maintenance work and service improvements across a number of work streams, balancing operational priorities, project deadlines and service risk

What You’ll Bring
  • The post holder will be educated to or operating at degree level in an IT Specialty
  • Specialist, demonstrable and extensive experience in an IT Security related discipline
  • Further education and evidence of Continuous Professional Development in IT subjects e.g. study days/courses/post graduate qualification
  • Specialist technical knowledge across complex IT security products and practices understanding current needs and acknowledging industry trends
  • A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
