Position Summary

The 2nd Shift Maintenance Team Lead is responsible for coordinating and performing maintenance activities within a sheet metal fabrication facility. This role ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports safe and efficient operations on 2nd shift. The Team Lead provides technical guidance, assigns work to technicians, and serves as the primary maintenance contact for 2nd shift production.

Maintenance team members must be available to fully support 2nd shift hours (4:00 p.m.

- 12:30 a.m.) and be available for weekend work as required based on production needs or urgent maintenance issues.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Coordination
  • Lead, mentor, and support 2nd shift maintenance technicians.
  • Prioritize and assign daily work orders and tasks.
  • Serve as the primary maintenance contact for 2nd shift production leadership.
  • Support onboarding, training, and skill development of maintenance staff.
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
  • Perform and oversee preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on sheet metal fabrication equipment, including:
    • Press brakes
    • CNC laser cutters
    • Turret punches
    • Welders
    • Roll formers
    • Air compressors, HVAC, and facility systems
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
  • Respond rapidly to equipment breakdowns to reduce unplanned downtime.
Process Improvement
  • Identify and implement improvements to increase equipment efficiency and reliability.
  • Support Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action activities.
Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements.
  • Conduct safety checks and promote a culture of hazard awareness.
  • Ensure documentation of repairs, inspections, and PMs is accurate and up to date.
Planning & Documentation
  • Maintain CMMS work orders, PM schedules, and equipment records.
  • Communicate shift handoff updates, ongoing issues, and completed work to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Assist with inventory control of spare parts and recommend reorder points.
Qualifications

Required

  • 3-5 years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication machinery.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Demonstrated leadership or team lead experience.
  • Ability to work 2nd shift (4p-12:30a) and support weekend work as needed.

Preferred

  • Previous Maintenance Team Lead or Senior Technician experience.
  • PLC troubleshooting or basic programming exposure.
  • CMMS software experience.
  • Experience with Lean, 5S, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work on equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfort working around industrial equipment, noise, and moving machinery.
Work Environment

The work environment is a sheet metal manufacturing facility that includes exposure to:

  • High noise levels from presses, CNC equipment, and other machinery
  • Warm or cool temperatures depending on seasonal conditions and machine heat output
  • Metal fabrication processes, including cutting, bending, welding, and grinding
  • Dust, fumes, and airborne particles, with proper ventilation and PPE provided
  • Fast-paced production demands, requiring quick response to equipment issues
  • Heavy industrial equipment and forklift traffic, requiring strong safety awareness

Maintenance team members must be comfortable navigating the production floor, working near active machinery, and performing tasks both indoors and outdoors as needed for facility and equipment support.
