Kentucky Educational Television (KET) operates the only statewide media organization in Kentucky, broadcasting into 8 states and 10 media markets. KET produces hundreds of hours of award‑winning local programs and provides live and on‑demand streaming services.

Position Overview

Broadcast Engineer

As a member of a six‑person engineering team, you will support master control, media processing, and playout across KET’s facilities in Lexington, Louisville, and Frankfort. You will work with innovative studio and post‑production technologies to keep broadcasts running smoothly.

Responsibilities
  • Install, repair, and maintain broadcast equipment—including master control, production studios, and post‑production systems.
  • Update system components (hardware and software) and manage security protocols, drivers, and records.
  • Ensure network and physical security procedures are maintained and enforced.
  • Configure, control, and monitor camera and video levels for studio and remote productions.
  • Liaise with IT systems administrators, transmissions engineers, production staff, and web developers to improve network efficiencies and workflows.
  • Maintain records of system configurations and workflow SOPs; update documentation as systems change.
  • Collaborate with team members, share skills, and participate in training opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in electronics, IT, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience (at least 2 years).
  • Experience with routing and distribution systems, video servers, playout automation, multi‑viewers, transcoding, LTO libraries, production switchers, digital audio systems, graphics systems, non‑linear edit systems, MAM, VTRs, and studio/field cameras and lenses.
  • Proficient in operating and troubleshooting Windows‑based studio, post‑production, and master control playout systems.
  • Working knowledge of broadcast test generators, test equipment, and signal monitoring systems.
  • Working knowledge of IP networking and configuration.
  • Preferred experience with AI tools for productivity and troubleshooting.
  • Can work under deadline pressure in an efficient, creative, and positive manner.
  • Strong communication and professional interpersonal skills; maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Flexible schedule; available for occasional evening and weekend shifts.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Able to lift, move, and carry equipment weighing up to 70 pounds; able to operate equipment while standing, sitting, bending, or kneeling for extended periods.
