Required License/Registration/Certification: Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds daily and 25-50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, sit for long periods; potential exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
Shift: Must work two 12‑hour shifts each week on Saturday and Sunday 7 a‑7 30 p as part of the Weekend Premium Pay Plan (WEPP).
Job SummaryRegistered Nurses in the Adult Progressive Care Unit on Pav A 10.100 Chandler Hospital provide care for adult patients who are moderately stable, have complex needs, and require comprehensive care. Patient care includes frequent assessment of pulmonary, renal, cardiac, vascular, and neurological conditions. The unit offers a more intensive level of care and monitoring than telemetry and medical/surgical units. As part of this unit, the RN serves as an important component of the interdisciplinary progressive care team, monitoring the patient's physiologic condition, executing frequent treatments as ordered by the physician, and facilitating a safe transition from intensive care to acute care.
The primary responsibilities for this position include: providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient‑centered care; assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant); and adhering to University policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations. The environment promotes collaboration among nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and expected patient outcomes, utilizing the nursing process and a comprehensive patient‑centered plan of care.
Skills/ Knowledge / Abilities
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, and Swanson’s Caring model; superb direct patient care and critical‑thinking skills; basic computer navigation skills and internet proficiency; professional communication with patients, families, co‑workers, and physicians; strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills; motivation, pro‑activity, confidence in patient advocacy, and a commitment to teamwork. Exceptional technical skills and proven ability to work independently and collaboratively are also required.
