Required License/Registration/Certification

Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, or temporary work permit, provisional license, or active compact state RN license in good standing, and AHA Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds daily and 25-50 pounds frequently; stand, walk and sit for long periods; exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injuries from patients or sharp instruments.

Shift

Must work three 12-hour DAY shifts (7AM-7:30PM), 36 hours per week. Must work some weekends and holidays as required per unit needs/schedule.

Job Summary

Registered Nurses at Chandler 8 Main provide care for Adult Medicine Services patients who are moderately stable, with fluctuating patient acuity, complex needs and require comprehensive care. Patient care includes frequent assessment of pulmonary, renal, cardiac, vascular and neurological conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Provide total, comprehensive, continuous and patient-centered care, including assessment, documentation, planning, implementation, teaching, development and evaluation of a comprehensive nursing plan of care.
  • Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants).
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to increase communication and enhance expected patient outcomes.
  • Utilize the nursing process in conjunction with a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Knowledge of Maslow's eight Basic Human Needs and the priority within Gordon's Functional Health Patterns Framework as well as Swanson's Caring model.
  • Superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills.
  • Basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet.
  • Strong communication skills with patients, families, co-workers and physicians.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.
  • Motivated, pro-active and confident in advocating for patients and their families.
  • Enjoys working in a strong team environment and provides open, honest communication with fellow staff and physicians.
  • Exceptional technical skills and proven ability to work in a team and independently.
Preferred Education/Experience

BSN + at least 1 year RN experience.
