No experience required. - Required License/Registration/Certification: Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, push, pull 50-100 pounds daily and 25-50 frequently; stand, walk, sit for long periods; may be exposed to communicable diseases, radiation, injury from patients or sharp instruments.
- Shift: Shifts start at 7a, 11a, 3p or 7p. Will work three 12‑hour shifts per week, including weekends and holidays. No swing shifts or set schedules.
Registered Nurses in Pediatric Emergency Services at UK Chandler Hospital provide care for patients with illnesses from infant to up to 17 years of age. The Chandler Emergency Department consists of 5 different areas where care is provided: triage where the patient is seen to determine how to prioritize their care needs, chair‑centric and express care intended for low acuity patients that can be seen and discharged within 60 minutes (minor complaints such as sore throat, isolated extremity injury, simple laceration);
the acute care area with 16 beds for common complaints (abdominal pain, stable chest pain, mild–moderate shortness of breath); critical care with 8 beds for trauma patients requiring continued care or ICU treatment (septic patients, vasoactive infusions); and the UK Level I Trauma Center with 8 beds capable of caring for the most complex injured patients.
The primary responsibilities include providing total, comprehensive, continuous, patient‑centered care: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. The environment supports collaborative efforts among nursing staff and physicians to increase communication and enhance expected patient outcomes through the nursing process and a comprehensive patient‑centered plan of care.
