Required License/Registration/Certification: Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state RN license in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers valid for at least 6 months after employment date

Physical Requirements: The essential functions include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds daily and 25-50 pounds frequently; stand, walk and sit for long periods. May involve exposure to communicable diseases, hazards of radiation, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.

Responsibilities

Registered nurses in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit provide intensive neurological and neurosurgical care for adults (15+ years). Responsibilities include close hemodynamic, medication and ventilator monitoring and treatment of patient complications related to neurological injury. Primary duties include:

  • Providing total, comprehensive, continuous, patient-centered care
  • Assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care
  • Delivering direct patient care and ensuring patient satisfaction
  • Training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians
  • Adhering to University policies and procedures and applicable regulations
  • Collaborating with the nursing staff and physicians to improve communication and patient outcomes
Qualifications

Required

  • ADN degree
  • Active RN license in Kentucky (or compact state), with valid certifications as specified
  • AHA BLS Healthcare Provider certification

Preferred Education/Experience

  • BSN
  • At least 1 year of RN experience preferred
Shift and Schedule

Two 12-hour shifts per week, 7:00 AM–7:30 PM, Saturdays;
Sundays night. Weekend Premium Plan (WEPP). Some holidays required.
