Job Summary
This position will serve as a Registered Nurse for a 32‑bed Cardiovascular Progressive Unit in Tower 8.100 of Pavilion
A. Primary patient conditions consist of heart and lung transplantation, post‑open heart/cardiovascular surgery, and general cardiology. The RN provides total, comprehensive, continuous, patient‑centered care, including assessment, documentation, planning, implementation, teaching, development, and evaluation of a comprehensive nursing plan of care. The RN delivers direct patient care, ensures patient satisfaction, trains and delegates duties to Nursing Care Technicians, and adheres to University policies, procedures, and federal, state and local regulations.
Must work two 12‑hour shifts each week, every Saturday and Sunday, from 7:00 AM until 7:30 PM as part of the Premium Weekend Plan, and may be required to work on some holidays.
Physical RequirementsAbility to lift, carry, push and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently; stand, walk and sit for long periods. Conditions may involve exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive, continuous, patient‑centered nursing care in a fast‑paced unit, including assessment, documentation, planning, implementation, teaching, and evaluation.
- Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant).
- Adhere to University policies, procedures, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and patient outcomes.
- Utilize the nursing process and a patient‑centered plan of care in all clinical activities.
- Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License, or active compact state RN license in good standing.
- AHA Basic Life Support certification valid at least 6 months after the employment date.
- Knowledge of Maslow’s Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns, and Swanson’s Caring Model.
- Superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills.
- Basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.
- Highly motivated, pro‑active, and confident in advocating for patients and their families.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a strong team environment with open, honest communication.
BSN and at least 1 year of RN experience preferred.
