Job SummaryRegistered Nurses in the Adult Medicine / Pulmonary Services Unit on Chandler 6 North and 6 East at UK Chandler Hospital provide care for adult patients who are moderately stable, with fluctuating patient acuity, have complex needs and require comprehensive care. Patient care will include frequent assessment of pulmonary, renal, cardiac, vascular and neurological conditions.
Responsibilities- Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, evaluate comprehensive nursing plan of care
- Deliver direct patient care
- Ensure patient satisfaction
- Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant)
- Adhere to university policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations
- Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and expected patient outcomes
- Utilize the nursing process in conjunction with a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care, ensuring patient satisfaction
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work TWO 12-hour shifts, 7p-730a every Saturday/Sunday or Friday/Saturday
- Work 24 hours/week and get paid for 32 hours/week for the weekend premium position (WEPP)
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis and 25-50 pounds frequently
- Must be able to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time
- Exposure to communicable diseases, hazards of radiation, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments is possible
- Education:
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required - License/Registration/Certification:
Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License, or active compact state RN license in good standing, and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date - Knowledge of Maslow’s eight basic human needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, and Swanson’s Caring model
- Strong direct patient care and critical thinking skills
- Basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet
- Excellent communication, organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills
- Highly motivated, pro‑active, and confident in advocating for patients and their families
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- BSN + at least 1 year of RN experience
