Required License/Registration/CertificationActive Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state RN license in good standing;
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after hire.
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, sit for long periods; exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, injury from patients or sharp instruments.
ShiftThree 12‑hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:30 PM; some weekend and holiday work required.
Job SummaryRegistered Nurses in the Chandler 5 Main Acute Care area at UK Chandler Hospital provide care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. The 5 Main unit provides acute, comprehensive inpatient care for patients with various medical diseases and surgical complications. As part of this unit, the RN serves as an important component of the medical team responsible for diagnosing and treating multiple medical and surgical disease complications.
PrimaryResponsibilities
Providing total, comprehensive, continuous, patient‑centered care that includes assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians; and adhering to university policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations. Additionally, supporting collaborative efforts among nursing staff and physicians to improve communication and patient outcomes, utilizing the nursing process combined with a patient‑centered plan.
Skills/ Knowledge / Abilities
- Knowledge of Maslow’s eight basic human needs, priority within Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, and Swanson’s Caring model
- Proficient in direct patient care and critical thinking skills
- Basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet
- Excellent communication skills with patients, families, co‑workers, and physicians
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills
- Highly motivated, proactive, confident in advocating for patients and families
- Team‑orientated, open and honest communication with staff and physicians
- Exceptional technical skills and ability to work independently
The position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
