About the RoleRegistered Nurses in the Chandler 8 Main at UK Chandler Hospital provide care for adult medicine patients who are moderately stable, with fluctuating acuity and complex needs. Patient care includes frequent assessment of pulmonary, renal, cardiac, vascular, and neurological conditions.
The primary responsibilities include providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient‑centered care, which involves assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians; and adhering to university policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations. Collaborative efforts with nursing staff and physicians are integral to improving communication and patient outcomes.
Job SummaryThe NHS will work in a 12‑hour shift schedule, 36 hours per week, primarily during nighttime shifts from 7 PM to 7:30 AM. Weekend and holiday work may be required based on unit needs.
Physical RequirementsThe essential functions include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50‑100 pounds daily, and 25‑50 pounds frequently; standing, walking, and sitting for long periods; and exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and potential injuries from patients or sharp instruments.
QualificationsEducation:
ADN required; BSN + at least one year of RN experience preferred.
Licensing:
Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), provisional license, or active compact state RN license in good standing, and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least six months after employment date.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Maslow’s hierarchy, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns, and Swanson’s Caring model; superb direct patient care and critical‑thinking skills; basic computer navigation and internet skills; ability to communicate professionally with patients, families, co‑workers, and physicians; strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills; motivation, pro‑activeness, and confidence in patient advocacy; teamwork and independent work capabilities.
