Job SummaryThe Nurse Clinical in the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Services is responsible for providing continuous, patient‑centered care. Responsibilities include assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing and evaluating comprehensive nursing plans of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties to Nursing Care Technicians; and adhering to University policies, regulations, and federal, state and local laws. Collaboration with nursing staff and physicians is essential to enhance communication and improve patient outcomes.
Responsibilities- Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate individualized nursing plans of care.
- Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Train and delegate duties to Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants).
- Adhere to University policies, procedures, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Collaborate with physicians and nursing staff to enhance communication and patient outcomes.
- Utilize the nursing process and comprehensive, patient‑centered plans of care.
- Required education:
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). - No prior experience required; however, a minimum of one year of RN experience is preferred.
- Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license or other acceptable RN license in good standing.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment.
- Knowledge of Maslow's Basic Human Needs and Gordon's Functional Health Patterns framework.
- Knowledge of Swanson's Caring model.
- Superior direct patient care and critical‑thinking skills.
- Basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet.
- Effective communication with patients, families, co‑workers, and physicians.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.
- Highly motivated, proactive, and confident in patient advocacy.
- Team‑player with the ability to work independently.
The ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods; and exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments.
