Qualifications
  • Education:

    Minimum ADN. BSN + 1 year RN experience preferred.
  • Licensure:
    Active Kentucky Registered Nurse license (or equivalent compact license). AHA Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment.
  • No prior experience required.
Physical Requirements

The essential functions include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds daily and 25-50 pounds frequently; stand, walk and sit for long periods. Exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments possible.

Shift

Must work two 12‑hour shifts each week: 7:00 PM–7:30 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. Weekend Premium Plan (WEPP); some holidays required.

Job Summary

Registered nurses in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at UK Chandler Hospital provide intensive neurological and neurosurgical care for adult patients aged 15+. Responsibilities include monitoring hemodynamics, medication, ventilation, and complications related to neurological injury.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate comprehensive nursing plans of care.
  • Deliver direct patient care and maintain patient satisfaction.
  • Train and delegate duties to Nursing Care Technicians.
  • Adhere to university policies, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to improve communication and patient outcomes.
  • Utilize the nursing process for patient‑centered care.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Knowledge of Maslow’s Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, and Swanson’s Caring model.
  • Superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills.
  • Basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet.
  • Professional communication with patients, families, colleagues, and physicians.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and delegation skills.
  • Motivation, pro‑active attitude, confidence in patient advocacy, and teamwork.
