Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license or equivalent (TWP, Provisional, or compact state RN in good standing), American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid at least 6 months after employment date.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50‑100 pounds daily and 25‑50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, sit for long periods; exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, injury from patients or sharp instruments.
Shift: Three 12‑hour shifts (7 p‑7 30 a) per week (36 hours), with weekend and holiday work as needed.
Job SummaryRegistered Nurses in the PAV A Pulmonary Medicine ICU at UK Chandler Hospital provide care to critically ill patients with conditions such as sepsis, CHF, GI bleed, COPD, drug overdose, respiratory failure, renal failure, hepatic failure, and multisystem organ failure. The unit offers cardiac monitoring, hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, CRRT, vasoactive drips, fluid resuscitation, and more.
Responsibilities- Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate comprehensive nursing plans of care.
- Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Train and delegate duties to Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants).
- Adhere to University policies, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to improve communication and patient outcomes.
- Knowledge of Maslow's Basic Human Needs, Gordon's Functional Health Patterns Framework, and Swanson's Caring model.
- Excellent direct patient care and critical‑thinking skills.
- Basic computer navigation and internet use.
- Professional and respectful communication with patients, families, coworkers, and physicians.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation abilities.
- Pro‑active, confident advocate for patients and families.
- Excellent teamwork and strong independent work capability.
Will not supervise staff.
