Position: Nurse Clinical/UKHC / 7P WEPP/ PAV A 6-200 UB TRAUMA & ACUTE CARE SERVICES

Job Summary

Registered Nurses in the Progressive Care unit of the Trauma Acute Care Surgical Center at UK Chandler Hospital provide comprehensive patient care primarily for adult trauma or acute care surgical patients. Key conditions include injuries from blunt and penetrating trauma, vascular and non‑elective orthopedic surgeries.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate nursing care plans.
  • Deliver direct patient care ensuring patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Train and delegate duties to Nursing Care Technicians and Nursing Assistants.
  • Adhere to university policies, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with physicians and the nursing team to enhance patient outcomes.
Required Education & Licensure
  • Active Kentucky Registered Nurse license, Temporary Work Permit, Provisional License, or active compact state RN license in good standing.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.
Preferred Education & Experience
  • BSN degree.
  • At least 1 year of RN experience.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments may occur.

Shift Requirements

Must work two 12‑hour night shifts per week, either Friday/Saturday night or Saturday/Sunday night (7 PM–7:30 AM), totaling 24 hours per week. This position is a Weekend Premium Plan Position.

  • Knowledge of Maslow’s Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns, and Swanson’s Caring model.
  • Strong direct patient care, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer navigation and internet proficiency.
  • Professional, respectful communication with patients, families, colleagues, and physicians.
  • Strong delegation, prioritization, and ability to work independently and in a team.
