Must-Have:
Required certifications include BLS. Charge nurse present on each shift, and most often takes an assignment. Staff includes nurse aides/patient care technicians with a ratio of 1:15. RNs are required to titrate drips, including common titratable and/or set rate drips. RNs read telemetry strips at least once a shift and upon changes in rhythms.
Description:
The telemetry unit has a total of 33 beds. Staffing ratios depend on patient acuity, ranging from 1:4 to 1:6. Patients are primarily post-cardiac surgeries and include individuals with conditions such as atrial fibrillation. Common treatments involve monitoring for cardiac gtts and thoracotomies, including chest tubes. RNs are responsible for placing patients on and off CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen systems.
Respiratory therapy is available for assistance in setting rates. Self-scheduling is practiced, but schedules may change to maintain balance. The expectation includes working six weekend shifts within a six-week period. Holiday staffing includes two summer and three winter shifts. Floating to other departments may be required. Dress code includes galaxy blue scrubs. Charting is done through the EPIC system.
