Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties:
Enforce federal, state, and local laws, as well as university policies and regulations.
Patrol campus on foot, bicycle, or vehicle to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Respond to calls for service, emergencies, alarms, and incidents involving students, faculty, staff, or visitors.
Conduct preliminary investigations, interview witnesses, collect evidence, and prepare detailed reports.
Make arrests when necessary and testify in court or university hearings as required.
Provide traffic and crowd control for university events, athletic competitions, and special programs.
Collaborate with other officers, supervisors, and external law enforcement agencies as appropriate.
Participate in campus safety education, community policing, and outreach programs to build positive relationships.
Assist with emergency management, including drills, evacuations, and crisis response.
Maintain professional certification, training, and ongoing knowledge of law enforcement practices.
Serve as a positive representative of the Department of Public Safety and the university.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Education and Experience
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification (or eligibility for certification) as a sworn peace officer in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Strong knowledge of law enforcement practices, emergency response, and public safety procedures.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and community engagement in policing.
Preferred:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public safety, or a related field.
Prior law enforcement experience, preferably in a campus or community-oriented environment.
Familiarity with Clery Act requirements, Title IX processes, and higher education safety standards.
