Police Certification

Lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 100 lbs.; sitting, walking, standing for long periods; intermittent periods of high stress.

10‑hour shifts, four days a week, on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift:

• 1st shift – 7:00 am to 5:00 pm
• 2nd shift – 4:00 pm to 2:00 am
• 3rd shift – 10:00 pm to 8:00 am

Days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime.

UK Health Care Police Sergeants provide a safe, secure environment for the UK Health Care community, primarily at Chandler Hospital.

The major responsibilities include:

• Supervision and management
• Patrol and investigations
• Public relations and service
• Professional development and training

Specific duties include:

• Providing supervision to UKPD Health Care operations
• Reviewing and approving reports
• Developing officers
• Patrolling on foot, bike, and mobile patrol
• Enforcing the law
• Building community relations
• Preparing and presenting testimony in court
• Providing security and traffic control for special University events
• Completing University and law enforcement related reports

Police Sergeants must be able to work overtime, especially in high volume seasons (university move‑in, football, basketball, etc.), change shifts, attend meetings, and work special duty events.

Police Sergeants shall positively interact, enhance relations, and represent the University with local law enforcement and community partners.
