Job Summary

The University of Kentucky is seeking a Student Center Operations Specialist to support evening and weekend operations of the Gatton Student Center and The 90. The position helps ensure safe, welcoming, and efficient facility operations by maintaining a visible presence throughout the buildings, supporting special events, monitoring building conditions, and assisting with daily operational needs.

The specialist serves as a key resource for students, guests, and campus partners by providing exceptional customer service, responding to operational concerns, and helping maintain secure, well‑functioning facilities. This role also supports student staff operations, facility access, and administrative processes that contribute to an outstanding campus experience.

Shift

Sunday‑Wednesday 2:00 PM to 1:00 AM (40 hours/week); additional hours may be needed to meet departmental needs.

Physical Requirements

Lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects up to and possibly over 25 lbs. Standing or walking carrying objects up to 25 lbs;
Repetitive motion. Work is performed in assigned areas and may occasionally include exposure to weather and elements. Standing for long periods of time.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a visible presence throughout the Gatton Student Center and The 90.
  • Assist with building openings and closures to ensure facilities are safe, secure, and ready for use.
  • Monitor facility conditions, report maintenance concerns, and communicate security or safety issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Manage access control systems and assist with building security procedures.
  • Provide guest service desk coverage as needed, delivering exceptional customer service to students, visitors, and campus partners.
  • Support student employee operations by assisting with scheduling and related administrative tasks.
  • Oversee the lost and found process, ensuring items are properly documented and managed.

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse campus community.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Sound judgment and problem‑solving skills with the ability to respond effectively to operational and facility concerns.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues and campus partners.
  • Experience with facility operations, building security, or related customer service environments is preferred.
