Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Substation Journeyman Tech to join our construction team. This position involves hands‑on work with high‑voltage systems, supporting construction, upgrades, and maintenance projects while ensuring safety, quality, and reliability of critical power infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Install, maintain, and repair substation equipment and systems.
- Assist with construction of new substations and upgrades.
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project plans.
- Work on and around foundations, grounding systems, conduit, cable trench, duct bank systems, bus work, and equipment setting (transformers, breakers, switches, control cabinets).
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and energized work protocols.
- Conduct pre‑job briefings and adhere to all safety standards.
- Identify and report hazards, defects, or installation issues.
- Work closely with foremen, engineers, and other crew members.
- Minimum 3‑7+ years of substation construction experience.
- Journeyman‑level experience in electrical construction or utilities.
- Strong knowledge of substation equipment and systems, electrical installation practices and safety procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Working knowledge of construction safety standards.
- Ability to operate construction equipment as needed.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Own hand tools.
- Must be able to learn from on‑the‑job training and work well with others.
- Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screening.
