Position Summary

A Landscape Crew Leader is responsible for leading and managing a crew of 2–5 team members to successfully complete landscape construction and installation projects. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to executing all work with safety, quality, and efficiency as priorities.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Crew Management
  • Lead, supervise, and motivate a crew of 2–5 team members.
  • Provide clear direction, daily task assignments, and hands-on training.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, correctly, and efficiently.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail across the entire property, ensuring a clean, organized, and professional appearance at all times.
  • Maintain jobsite organization, cleanliness, and professionalism.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients when needed.
  • Monitor crew productivity and uphold company performance standards.
Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure safe operation of all tools and equipment.
  • Maintain compliance with DOT regulations and company vehicle policies.
  • Ensure proper loading, securing, and transport of equipment and materials.
Equipment Operation & Transportation
  • Safely and proficiently operate landscape construction equipment, including skid steers, mini excavators, and other common landscape industry machinery.
  • Load and transport equipment using truck and trailer combinations.
  • Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections.
  • Maintain and protect company vehicles and equipment assets.
Landscape Construction & Installation
  • Perform and oversee site preparation, leveling, and grading.
  • Install drainage systems (including drainage tile).
  • Install hardscape pavers and retaining walls.
  • Install plants and prepare beds.
  • Read, interpret, and accurately execute work according to blueprints, landscape plans, and construction drawings.
  • Ensure projects meet design specifications and company quality standards.
Plant Knowledge & Horticulture
  • Demonstrate job-specific knowledge of plants, including identification, growth habits, and spacing requirements.
  • Apply proper planting techniques and address common plant diseases and landscape issues.
  • Identify plant health concerns and recommend solutions.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license (required).
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a DOT Medical Card for operating commercial vehicles.
  • Proven experience loading, securing, and driving truck and trailer combinations.
  • Experience leading and managing a small crew (2–5 team members).
  • Proficient operation of skid steers, mini excavators, and other landscape construction equipment.
  • Experience in grading, drainage installation, paver systems, and retaining wall construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Strong understanding of jobsite safety standards and OSHA best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of landscape construction experience.
  • Prior leadership or foreman experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot jobsite challenges and adjust plans as needed.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems is a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and operate equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak season.
