This employee designs, fabricates, maintains, and repairs structures and equipment for City buildings. Employee works primarily with wood and similar materials, but will occasionally install acoustical ceilings and wall panels, replace doors, windows, screenings, and other related work. Installs and replaces locks, hinges, bolts, catches, door closers, and other building hardware. Operates shop machinery. Some assignments may involve shoring, timbering, and concrete form and finishing work.
Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge of:- Design, maintenance, construction, repair, and replacement of building components.
- Framing and Finish carpentry work.
- Blueprints, sketches, finished drawings, and specifications.
- Methods, materials, and tools used in the trade.
- Operate hand-held power tools.
- Operate lifts.
- Perform welding tasks as appropriate.
- Glaze windows.
- Operate shop machines: table saw, planer, band saw, jointer, etc.
- Operate assigned vehicle in performance of job duties.
- Measure materials to be cut or layout jobs at job sites, using various measuring devices.
- Design, maintain, construct, repair, and replace components of buildings.
- Read and understand drawings.
- Prepare clear and concise reports.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Work from heights in excess of 150 feet.
- Prepare isometric drawings.
- Establish work schedules for performance duties.
- Keep work area clean and free of safety hazards.
- Supervise the work of lower-level personnel.
Each applicant must have completed an approved four-year carpenter's apprenticeship program (documentation required) and have four years paid journeyman's experience in commercial/ industrial construction maintenance. Must have the equivalent to completion of twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized training in carpentry.
Other Requirements:- Must have a valid Driver's License.
- May be required to use a respirator and pass a respirator fit test.
- Must be able to work outside year around.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Some positions may be required to work at heights in excess of 150 feet.
- Some positions may be required to work at depths in excess of 90 feet.
- Some positions may be required to work in confined spaces such as pipes and chambers.
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.
