Position: Instrument Controls Technician (12 Hour Nights – Rotating Weekends)

Shift Schedule

12‑Hour Night Shift: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM. Rotating 2‑2‑3 schedule: two days on, two days off, three days on, then two days off, two days on, and three days off. Every other weekend worked, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Shift differential: $2 per hour.

Job Purpose

The Plant Instrument Controls Technician (ICT) reports to the Maintenance Manager, maintaining plant inspection, instrument, electrical, and controls systems. The ICT completes planned and unplanned work in accordance with company instructions and applicable rules and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and specialized repair, maintenance, and updates of instruments, controls, and process control network systems across the manufacturing process.
  • Work as part of a team to plan, analyze, and control process quality.
  • Inspect, repair, and adjust PLCs, HMIs, and related equipment using electrical test equipment, circuit diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Install or replace instrumentation devices such as flow, temperature, and pressure sensors; program devices or download parameters as needed.
  • Install or replace control systems that fail to operate. Continuously monitor processes to detect and correct malfunctions immediately.
  • Install or replace PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and servo drives; program or download parameters as required.
  • Continuously improve process control systems through advanced process control, alarm management, and operator interface optimization.
  • Act as plant liaison for new system startups and commissioning with outside controls contractors and system integrators, ensuring proper transfer of documented PLC program changes and adequate training.
  • Integrate PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, and process controls.
  • Train end users on the operations of newly installed or modified process control systems.
  • Provide technical training to lower‑level personnel.
  • Work in all areas of the facility, including the Packaging Department, Processing Department, and Facilities/Utilities Department.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of maintenance experience in Industrial Control System development and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley Micrologix/Micro
    800, Compact Logix & Control Logix, and Siemens Step 7 PLCs.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens VFDs and servo drives.
  • Proven experience with Ether Net/IP, Profi Net, Profi Bus, and ASi industrial networks.
  • Strong PLC skills with expertise in system administrative and maintenance activities, and hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Programming experience in IEC 61131‑3 compliant languages: ladder diagram, function block diagram, structured text, instruction list, and/or sequential function chart.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal communication, including reading and writing.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Technology, or related military service training programs.
  • Experience with FTView ME, FTView SE.
  • Experience with Siemens S7 PLCs.
  • Experience with Eaton and Danfoss VFDs.
  • Proven experience with Ethernet IP, Profi Net, Profi Bus, CAN, BACnet, AS‑i, Modbus industrial networks.
  • Familiarity with SQL databases.
  • Additional experience with machinery repair and control systems.
  • Additional training as an industrial electrician.
  • Dairy and/or high‑speed beverage maintenance experience.
  • Programming experience in Visual Basic or similar languages.

  • Regular use of a variety of machines and hand‑tools; standing for extended periods.
  • Good math and reasoning ability; able to read and use engineering drawings, operating manuals, and blueprints.
