R. J. Corman Railroad Company is hiring for a Bridge Laborer based in Lexington, KY.
AccountabilityWorks with the RJC RR Company Bridge Crew in executing maintenance and project needs. Primarily responsible for manual labor aspect of bridge maintenance.
Responsibilities- Ensures FRA compliance with work practices.
- Works with team members and is proactive with safety compliance.
- Must understand and operate according to FRA Bridge worker fall protection requirements.
- Required to work both independently and in groups, most often in an elevated environment requiring use of fall protection safety gear.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Prefer experience in construction / maintenance / laborer position.
- Communication skills with demonstrated experience with all levels of personnel.
- Able to perform physical strenuous work.
- Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50 lbs of force.
- Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75 lbs of force.
- Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner.
- Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary.
- Performs many duties in job-site environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles and equipment. Frequent exposure to weather elements; appropriate PPE required for job site visits.
- Maintenance of teamwork to achieve track/mechanical standards objectives. Achieving timely and expedited performance to customers often in situations beyond the control of the operation.
- Position requires significant travel - rotation 8 days on, 6 days off.
- Performs job under minimal supervision, planning and managing preventive maintenance of equipment and bridges.
