Position: Transit Tech (Part Time Only)

Transit Tech (Part Time Only)

Position Summary

Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on transit buses within safety and manufacturer specifications. Provide mechanical repairs as directed by the supervisor. Handle troubleshooting of electrical, electronic, climate control systems, diesel engines, and transmissions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic to intermediate-level mechanical repairs on transit buses (50%)
  • Remove and replace broken components on diesel/electric buses (20%)
  • Complete assigned work orders and submit for approval (15%)
  • Ensure work progress is approved before starting next task (5%)
  • Assist full-time technicians with scheduled preventative maintenance (5%)
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain heavy-duty diesel vehicles and troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronics systems, climate control systems, diesel engines, and transmissions.
  • Ability to use computers for diagnosis and parts look-ups.
  • Driver's license required (Georgia Class B CDL with air brakes and passenger endorsements preferred).
  • Physical ability to walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, bend, and squat frequently; work with hands above head; use ladders and platforms.
  • Candidate must submit to drug and alcohol testing per USDOT regulations.
