Diesel Mechanic
The Diesel Mechanic inspects, maintains, and repairs vehicles and heavy equipment powered by diesel engines, including semi-trucks, buses, and construction machinery. This role uses specialized diagnostic tools to identify malfunctions, perform routine preventive maintenance such as oil changes, and repair or replace defective parts to ensure safe and reliable operation of all equipment.
Responsibilities- Inspect diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Use specialized diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately troubleshoot diesel engine malfunctions.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and lubrication.
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, including fuel systems, cooling systems, and exhaust components.
- Repair and maintain brake systems to ensure safe stopping performance and compliance with safety standards.
- Service and repair transmissions, drive trains, and related mechanical components.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems used on heavy equipment and machinery.
- Perform electrical system diagnostics and repairs, including wiring, lighting, and starting/charging systems.
- Replace worn or defective parts and components using appropriate tools and repair techniques.
- Conduct welding and basic fabrication tasks as needed to repair or reinforce components and structures.
- Test repaired vehicles and equipment to verify proper operation and ensure issues are fully resolved.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs performed on each vehicle or piece of equipment.
- Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working with tools, equipment, and heavy machinery.
- Keep the work area organized, clean, and compliant with workplace safety and housekeeping standards.
- Strong hands-on experience working with diesel engines in vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Ability to perform repairs on diesel engines, including fuel, cooling, and exhaust systems.
- Knowledge of brake systems and the ability to inspect, service, and repair braking components.
- Experience repairing and maintaining transmissions and drive trains.
- Understanding of hydraulic systems and the ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic components.
- Solid mechanical aptitude and familiarity with a wide range of tools and repair techniques.
- Ability to use specialized diagnostic tools and equipment for diesel engine analysis.
- Basic welding skills for repair and fabrication work.
- Attention to detail and commitment to performing high-quality, safe repairs.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on semi-trucks, buses, and construction machinery.
- Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical systems on diesel-powered equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and repair instructions.
