Job SummaryThe Mechanic 2 is responsible for intermediate to advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on trailers, diesel, and gasoline powered vehicles and plant equipment. The role builds upon foundational skills of a Mechanic
1. Shift: Night Shift 5pm-5am.
- Interpret and use repair manuals to properly repair equipment.
- Diagnose and repair diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, transmission and hydraulic systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair air brake systems, suspension components, and drive trains.
- Use diagnostics software and scan tools to identify and resolve issues.
- Maintain accurate service records and complete work orders in fleet management systems.
- Respond to roadside service calls for disabled vehicles when required.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop and work areas.
- Mentor and assist Mechanic 1 as needed.
- Perform all preventive maintenance and repair work on fleet vehicles and plant equipment (wheel loaders, skid steers, man lifts, scissor lifts, backhoes, lawn mowers, and farm tractors).
- Review driver vehicle inspection reports and repair inspections directed by Mechanic 3 or the Fleet Manager.
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
- Inspect and replace basic components like belts, hoses, batteries, and lights.
- Assist in diagnosing mechanical issues using basic diagnostic tools.
- Document work performed and parts used through maintenance logs or fleet management systems.
- Familiarize with and observe all company safety rules and regulations; attend regularly scheduled safety meetings.
- Participate in ongoing training and certification programs (travel as needed).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Brake certification (required).
- 3+ years of experience in vehicle maintenance or a related technical field, or vocational training plus 1+ year of related work.
- Personal basic tool set to perform preventive maintenance.
- Proficiency with diesel and gasoline engine operation and components.
- Experience with OEM diagnostics tools and software.
- Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, work orders, and technical manuals.
- Experience with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
- Detail oriented; highly organized.
- Proficient experience with basic computer tasks and use of fleet software.
- Class A CDL (required in some locations).
- ASE certifications in areas such as diesel engines, brakes, and electrical systems (desired).
- Ability to lead teams.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Self‑starter; self‑motivated.
