Commercial HVAC Service TechnicianReports to: Service Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly
Pay Range: $60k-105K Based on Experience
Job Description For Commercial HVAC TechnicianThe primary objective of this position is to perform daily activities of a Commercial Service Technician under the direction of the Service Manager. This position is primarily responsible for the daily field activities required to execute aftermarket projects, T&M Labor, Preventative Maintenance Agreements and help manage the guys. The role requires acquisition of company core values along with a team mentality, excellent written and oral communication skills, outstanding customer relationship management, expert knowledge of HVAC equipment, high quality workmanship and documentation, coordination of post-sale work, safety standard verification, and issue resolution.
Excellent time‑management and problem‑solving skills are essential.
- Assist Project Manager with installation training when required.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose building mechanical systems (RTUs, split systems, VRFs, boilers, chillers, AHUs, VAVs).
- Repair and/or install proposed diagnoses.
- Plan, layout and ensure overall efficiency of project repair and/or installation.
- Work independently.
- Read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Assist with owner training.
- Support Service Manager with warranty and non‑warranty issue resolution.
- Manage onsite communication with customers and facility directors.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
- Assist in training apprentices.
- Occasionally assist with startup or issue resolution for other mechanical and control product lines.
- Consult with Service Manager or manufacturer support in times of uncertainty.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to solve issues effectively and efficiently.
- Coordinate with aftermarket project management and service controller to keep jobs on track and on schedule.
- Collaborate with manufacturers and AEC stakeholders to ensure effective issue resolution.
- Always maintain company culture and core values.
- Understand company long‑term mission and vision.
- Attend regular L10 meetings.
- Attend quarterly reviews.
- Understand basic refrigeration cycle including super heat, subcooling, component identification, troubleshooting, and use of manifold gauge set, pressure‑temperature charts, and temperature measuring devices.
- Understand basic electron theory, AC/DC currents, single‑phase and three‑phase circuits, series and parallel circuits; read basic wiring diagrams; apply Ohm’s Law; use multimeters to read voltage, current and resistance; and troubleshoot basic electrical circuits.
- Understand air conditioning, temperature/humidity control and distribution; read mechanical drawings; understand heating cycle, component identification, and troubleshoot gas‑fired units using a gas pressure gauge and other routine maintenance tools.
- Understand combustion theory for gas and oil fuels; operate a gas combustion analyzer and correct combustion if it is not proper.
- HVAC Journeyman license and EPA certification, with at least 5 years of trade‑related work experience.
- High School diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
- OSHA 10‑hour safety certificate.
