Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced, self-sufficient Door Access Control Installation Technician to join our team. This is a traveling position requiring frequent overnight and multi-day travel to job sites across various regions. The ideal candidate is a hands-on installer who can work independently, manage their time on-site, and deliver clean, professional installations with minimal supervision. Candidates must have a proven track record of at least five years installing and wiring commercial access control systems.
CoreResponsibilities & Required Skills
The candidate must be proficient and able to demonstrate hands-on experience in all of the following:
- Install magnetic locks (maglocks), including mounting, bracket fabrication, and alignment
- Install and cut in electric door strikes on a variety of frame and door types (hollow metal, wood, aluminum)
- Install and wire up card access readers
- Install and wire up door access control panels
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, riser drawings, and floor plans
- Test, troubleshoot, and verify functionality of all installed hardware prior to sign-off
On-the-job training will be provided for system programming and setup. Candidates do not need prior programming experience but must be willing and able to learn manufacturer-specific software and configuration procedures.
Additional Relevant Skills (Preferred)- Experience with request-to-exit (REX) devices, motion sensors, and door position switches
- Familiarity with power supplies, battery backups, and fire alarm relay integration for fail-safe/fail-secure locking
- Knowledge of door hardware, closers, and basic carpentry/metal fabrication for cut-ins and mounting
- Comfort using hand tools, power tools, drills, and core bits
- Experience with conduit runs, cable management, and terminating connectors
- Understanding of low-voltage code and best practices
- Ability to use a laptop, multimeter, and cable tester for troubleshooting
- Basic IP networking knowledge (assigning IP addresses, connecting devices to a network switch)
- Ability to work off ladders, lifts, and in ceilings/crawl spaces
- Strong documentation habits (as-builts, labeling, close-out photos)
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on door access control installation experience
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively, including overnight stays
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various physical environments
- Reliable, punctual, and professional when representing the company on customer sites
