Job Summary - Engineering Manager, Robotics & AI - based onsite in Lexington, KY
As an Engineering Manager, Robotics & AI you will focus on building and sustaining smart, physical robotic systems and the data services enabled through them.
You will direct a team of ROS and CV/AI software developers to design, train, and deploy real-time computer vision models and robot control pipelines using ROS/ROS 2 in an Agile/Scrum environment, and oversee the integration of AI models with physical robot hardware, achieving goals for feature development and maintenance, vision model accuracy, and system latency.
You will own the vision pipeline and drive the design of scalable software for real-time object detection, segmentation, tracking, and 3D pose estimation; lead the development of new ROS nodes for product enhancement; oversee data collection, annotation, training, and optimization of deep learning models for deployment on edge devices; ensure seamless connection between vision pipelines and robot control software (ROS/ROS
2); and consult on system architectures, assessing technical requirements and competencies needed to produce a high quality product.
What can you expect to do?
- Strong background in ROS/ROS 2 architecture.
- Deep knowledge of computer vision and deep learning tools, with experience in 3D vision, point cloud processing, camera calibration, and sensor fusion (RGB-D, LiDAR, cameras, radar)
- Experience with fine-grained visual classification, automated Planogram compliance, or millions-of-SKU product recognition systems.
- Track record of managing production AI systems. Familiarity with deploying and scaling automated retraining pipelines using cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and MLOps tools (Kubeflow, MLflow).
- Familiar with code development frameworks, using Linux in a real-time environment, and C++ and Python languages.
- Hands-on experience using robotics simulators (e.g., Isaac Sim, Gazebo) and generative AI to create synthetic training data for rare edge cases is a plus.
What is the experience needed to be successful in this role?
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related technical field required. Master's degree preferred.
- 12+ years of experience in robotics software, computer vision, AI/ML, autonomous systems, or related fields, including leadership experience managing engineering teams.
- Strong background in ROS/ROS 2 architecture and development of production-grade robotic systems.
- Deep knowledge of computer vision and deep learning, including experience with 3D vision, point cloud processing, camera calibration, and sensor fusion (RGB-D, LiDAR, cameras, radar).
