LHS Administrative Assistant
- Receptionist

Lexington Public Schools (MA), Lexington High School, Lexington, Massachusetts.

Starting Date: Aug 31, 2026

Term of Employment: Administrative Staff - 10 months
- Class B with benefits according to the LEA Unit D collective bargaining agreement.

Salary: $31.13 - $38.88 per hour, 37.5 hours per week.

Job Description

Employee performs a variety of reception, clerical and administrative duties to support the operations of the office.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as receptionist for the main office, registering guests and issuing visitor passes
  • Monitor entrance and allow entrance to the building; greet the public
  • Direct visitors to their destination
  • Answer phones and direct calls; answer general questions
  • Coordinate substitute coverage for pre-planned and daily absences using AESOP system
  • Generate attendance sheets for substitutes
  • Track leave time off for salaried faculty members and enter into MUNIS
  • Collect information for CORI renewals and forward to human resources
  • Sell public transit tickets (Lex Press)
  • Accept deliveries
  • Reserve conference rooms
  • Perform special projects as needed
  • Perform a variety of related duties
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and 1-3 years of experience in administrative, clerical, financial or secretarial work, preferably in a school environment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification and experience.

Must have knowledge of department regulations, policies, programs, and operations; and knowledge of office management principles and practices, and computer systems.

Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with the public, officials and department personnel; to work independently efficiently; to communicate effectively in written and oral form; to establish and maintain record‑keeping systems; to operate a telephone and standard office equipment; to manage multiple tasks efficiently; to deal tactfully with disgruntled people.

Skill in operating computers and applicable word processing; excellent customer service skills; strong record‑keeping, secretarial, organization, communication and customer service skills.

Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands or arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Job Requirements
  • High school/trade school degree preferred.
