Position
Visitors' Center Tourism Advisor/Cashier – part‑time (Monday through Sunday, weekend availability strongly preferred). Hourly Rate: $15.68/hour. Posting will remain open until filled.
OverviewUnder the general supervision of the Visitor Center Manager, this position performs clerical, administrative, and customer‑service tasks to support the overall operations of the Visitor Center. Tourism Advisors/Cashiers greet and converse with visitors, providing them with insights into the town’s rich history and culture to enhance the visitor experience.
Essential Job Functions- Assist the public at the front counter by ringing up purchases.
- Answer questions and provide information in person, via email, and by telephone.
- Refer unresolved matters to the appropriate staff member.
- Perform basic office tasks.
- Reconcile the cash drawer at the end of each shift.
- Perform special projects and other related duties as required.
- Maintain attention to detail for accurate inventory and transaction records.
- Restock merchandise and brochures on the sales floor.
- Regular attendance at the workplace is required.
- Ability to stand and walk during shifts.
- 14 years of age or older.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage effectively with customers.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Previous customer service and hospitality experience and general knowledge of Boston’s history preferred but not required.
- Ability and motivation to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong math skills preferred but not required.
- Handle close contact with co‑workers and frequent interactions with the public.
- Multitask, concentrate, and perform administrative support services in a busy environment.
- Remember, with clarity, a variety of task instructions and preferred procedures.
- Work well independently in any temporary absence of supervision.
- Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, and maintain effective work relationships.
Work is performed in a normal retail store environment, with no extremes of temperature, noise, or odor. The position requires extended periods of standing, operating a cash register, and bagging purchases, demanding eye‑hand coordination and finger dexterity.
HoursThe Visitor Center is open daily, seven days a week throughout the year, excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Shifts are typically split between the morning and afternoon.
