Job Summary
Lexington Montessori School is an independent day school serving toddlers through eighth grade on 19 acres of woods and a farming program. The school seeks an experienced Art teacher for the Children’s House program, beginning August 2026. This part‑time position requires 4 hours per week, with classes meeting once per week.
Responsibilities- Design and provide a creative, adaptive environment that is stimulating and aesthetically appealing.
- Participate in the collective design and maintenance of teaching environments shared with other staff (hallways, staff rooms, etc.).
- Implement a curriculum consistent with the school’s mission and diversity tenets, and align with all‑school curriculum objectives.
- Share and coordinate classroom curriculum with other specialists and Art teachers to provide a sequenced and integrated educational experience.
- Communicate observations and knowledge of children to others working with that child: classroom teachers, BASP staff, etc.
- Intervene proactively and reactively to maintain a disciplined, respectful community.
- Communicate professionally, directly, and respectfully with colleagues.
- Participate in, support and nurture the LMS community spirit.
- Keep subjective and objective records of students’ progress.
- Write reports on student progress for parents.
- Communicate commitment to anti‑bias education in communication with parents and children.
- Contribute to school publications and keep online information current.
- Experience as an art teacher, preferably in progressive, experiential, and/or holistic education.
- Montessori training is not required.
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging art curriculum in a part‑time setting.
