Position: 0.6 FTE Adapted Physical Education Teacher

Position Title

0.6 FTE Adapted Physical Education Teacher (FLSA: Exempt)

Reports to:

Building Principal and/or Department Head

Terms of Employment: 184 day work year (Prorated). Benefits and salary in accordance with the LEA Unit A collective bargaining agreement. Salary Range:
Unit A 25-26.

Start date:

August 31, 2026. FY26 salary scale may change based on completed negotiations.

Overview

This position will involve supporting students at Clarke Middle School and Estabrook Elementary to access the PE curriculum with APE services. The position will require travel between these schools which is accounted for in the position.

Position Responsibilities
  • Meet and instruct grade K-8 students at Clarke Middle School and Esabrook Elementary School during assigned class time and in the locations and at designated times.
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, maintaining order in a fair and just manner.
  • Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms and as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement if applicable.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads and principals, assist in the evaluation of their job performance.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Teach pupils in a classroom, using the course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications

Must have appropriate licensure in the subject and at the grade level posted.

Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology.
