FLSA:

Reports to:

Building Principal and the Director of Special Education

Terms of Employment:

184 day work year. Benefits and salary in accordance with the LEA Unit A collective bargaining agreement.

Start Date:

August 31, 2026. FY26 salary scale may change based on completed negotiations. Unit A 25-26 Salary Range.

Responsibilities:
  • Develops lesson plans, instructional materials and instructional supports for students with language based learning disabilities through individualized and small group instruction in Literacy and Math.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing multi-sensory and technological instructional lessons and supports.
  • Adapts and/or supports general education curriculum to the needs of each pupil in all content areas.
  • Supports regular educator by modifying Science & Social Studies curriculum for LLP students, using the course of study adopted by the MA DESE.
  • Works to ensure the rights of students with disabilities to be full participants in the general curriculum and classroom.
  • Implements state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to special education.
  • Participates in the development of and oversees implementation of IEPs for students eligible for special education.
  • Supervises, supports and trains paraprofessionals as they implement instruction and provide multi-sensory language based support.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a supportive learning environment in the classroom.
  • Collects, records, and evaluates on going data on pupils’ academic and social growth, to support lesson planning, IEP development, and progress monitoring.
  • Communicates regularly with parents in addition to conferences to discuss pupil’s progress.
  • Provide wrap around student services through ongoing collaboration with school and district personnel.
  • Actively participates in ongoing professional development through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing program and to determine special education eligibility.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:

Masters Degree in Special Education preferred.

DESE certification in moderate disabilities required at the appropriate grade level required; DESE certification in severe disabilities and previous experience will also be considered if moderate license is pursued within the first year of employment.

Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology.

Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property, assist the principal in fire and other emergency drills as required by law and School Committee policy.
