Job Description

Position Title: 1.0 FTE High School Long-Term Substitute Biology Teacher

Reports to: Building Principal and/or Department Head

Terms of Employment: To cover a leave of absence from approximately August 31, 2026 through October 22, 2026 unless circumstances dictate a change.

Compensation: $175 per diem for days worked, non-benefits eligible, at-will position.

Position Responsibilities
  • Meets and instructs grade 10 Honors Biology students during assigned class time.
  • Develops and plans a program of study tailored to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media aligned with physical limitations of the location and the needs of students.
  • Promotes the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals through instruction and action.
  • Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct, developing reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintaining order fairly and justly.
  • Provides availability to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day under reasonable terms.
  • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, and cooperatively evaluates their performance with department heads and principals.
  • Maintains and improves professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, provides individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt curriculum to each pupil’s needs.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available instructional time.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identifies pupil needs, cooperating with other professional staff to address health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Creates an effective learning environment through displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
  • Participates in curriculum development and faculty committees as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
  • Appropriate licensure in biology at the high‑school level is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; high technological competency.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship or residency with work authorization required.
Physical Demands

Frequent sitting; occasional walking, using hands, and reaching; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Close vision and ability to adjust focus required.
