DESCRIPTION:

The Literacy Interventionist role is for an educator highly experienced and skilled in teaching phonics, reading fluency, reading comprehension and writing skills. This full or part time position will administer and interpret literacy assessments with grade level teacher teams to determine adequate progress and to identify students in need of Tier 2 or Tier 3 literacy intervention. The Literacy Interventionist will deliver focused, sequential and systematic literacy instruction using research-based materials that align with a Waldorf Curriculum.

This individual must establish and communicate clear objectives for all learners, and collaborate with classroom teachers to monitor and encourage individual student progress, review data to make instructional decisions to address student weaknesses and provide literacy intervention in a variety of settings and modalities for grade levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Provide targeted, systematic and responsive small group literacy instruction
  • Monitor and encourage individual student progress through ongoing communication regarding student performance and learning needs with schools leaders and teacher teams
  • Deliver instruction from using a range of products determined in coordination with leadership:
    Fundations, Heggerty Bridge to Reading, Wilson Just Words, structured writing programs etc.
  • Review diagnostic assessments in order to form benchmarks that drive instruction
  • Develop weekly lessons to meet and identify the individual needs of the students requiring intervention services
  • Collaborate with teachers and school leaders to use diagnostics create and adjust criteria for literacy intervention groups to identify students in need of supplemental or intensive instruction
  • Facilitate writing workshops for middle school students
  • Attend parent and teacher meetings
  • Attend and facilitate home district IEP meetings as a representative of the school
  • Be self-motivated and efficient
  • Contribute to school-wide initiatives and events

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a K-5 classroom
  • Possess a deep understanding of literacy theory for the purpose of instruction and best practices
  • Deep knowledge of literary assessment practices
